The Medway Web Designer
My name is Martin – thank you for visiting my site – Medway Web Designer.
I studied Management Sciences at Loughborough University between 2002 and 2006. I then worked at Marstan Press, where I was sales, marketing and operations director until January 2019. After that I spent a couple more years in the print industry, before moving into the HR and Health & Safety sector. I live in Medway, hence the website name!
Website Frustration
Whilst at Marstan Press I found myself frustrated at not being able to update our own website. Not being able to easily integrate features such as a twitter feed or simple sign up form was not ideal. When looking at new website proposals, local website designers seemed so expensive! Search engine optimisation was then charged as a secondary project.
WordPress
As a solution I started teaching myself how to build and design websites. The content management system I settled on was WordPress which is a widely used platform. It offers thousands of bolt-on features, known as plugins.
Over time I replaced the main company website, and built websites for two new divisions of the company. I built a Christmas Cards for Schools site in 2012 and a Foil Blocking site in 2015. I was able to get these websites on to page one of Google for numerous keywords. This was done by adding regular new, relevant content and ensuring and content was optimised. (Google likes regular and relevant articles.) Marstan Press closed down in January 2019, but I have maintained my interest in building websites.
Tackling Business Needs
Whilst I work full-time, I still enjoy building websites. I felt I could help local Medway businesses by designing websites at affordable prices. So I built this website with a clean-design and search engine optimised content. My unique selling point is I am someone who has over 12 years experience as a company director, and I can build websites, rather than being a designer who can build websites as part of their repertoire. Therefore I know the challenges a business can face. I appreciate how frustrating it can be not being able to keep your own website up-to-date. I know the importance of getting a return from your investment.
